PERPETUAL SEEKER, OLPHS OFFICIAL SCHOOL PAPER
Perpetual Seekers, has been the official school paper of OLPHS. Its maiden issue was in October, 1993, the year when the High School Department was also founded. It was only four pages on a 9” x 12 inches ( tabloid size). Its nameplate was suggested by Ms. Flora J. Mendoza and Mr. Caliyon, former Grade 5 & 6 adviser teacher ( now in Dubai) who also conceived its logo and later modified by Aries Suarez, a High School former High School cartoonist. The teachers who served as first advisers where Mrs. Arlene I. Donor, Mrs. Sonia Areja ( former grade 6 adviser), and Mr. Edwin F. Caliyon. After a year, Ms. Russel Gabriel, former Grade 5 teacher and Ms. Janette F. Macuja were added as advisers.
However, due to the participation in Division, Regional and eventually in National Schools Press Conferences, the school created a broadsheet size for the Secondary level. Its advisers at present are Mr. Dennis M. Mendoza, Mr. Richard Raymund L. Doreza, Mrs. Catherine Sahagun and Mrs. Arlene I. Donor. On the other hand, elementary edition’s adviser were Ms. Ainna R. Insigne and Mr. Fernando D. Patungan, Jr. after Ms. Macuja left for Qatar. Ms. Flora J. Mendoza served as its consultant both in elementary and secondary editions.
Since year 2000, when the school started joining in the group category, the Perpetual Seekers both elementary and secondary editions have been qualifiers in the National Press Conferences.
This school paper serves as a link to the school and parents and even in the community. All the activities, events and winners are recorded here. This is an avenue for the students to hone their talents particularly in writing, cartooning, and photo- taking.
The staff is not only composed of advisers and consultant but also panel of writers, editors, journalists and cartoonists who all qualified in the screening made by the advisers. They also represent the school in the district, division, regional or even in national schools press conferences held yearly.
If you are good in writing, join in the screening held every July or August at OLPHS. This Perpetual Seekers will also serve as an e- newspaper where you can view the news events found in the published paper.
